Alaska Frontier Gardens B&B |
The Anchorage Garden Club hosts a garden tour on Sunday July 31 from 12 noon to 5 pm. It is open to the public, therefore about 500 people are anticipated to be enjoying the gardens of Anchorage.
One of the gardens invited to be on the tour is Alaskan Frontier Gardens Bed and Breakfast. The hostess, Rita Gittins, won an award for outstanding service in the tourism industry and also a award for Best of Gardens. This lush garden is located in Anchorage’s peaceful “Hillside” area just one mile from the Chugach State Park near Flattop Mountain. The B&B resides in a custom cedar home on three acres nestled among pine trees, green lawns, and alpine flowers and decks hung with more than 50 flowering baskets. Wild flowers that are among the ferns are Forget-me-not (Alaska State Flower), wild geraniums, buttercups, wild columbine, lupine, and Alaskan Poppy and of course Fireweed.
Blue Poppies |
There are gardens of Dahlias, Blue Himalayan Poppies, Yellow Rocket Ligiliara, 8 foot Blue Delphiniums, Bleeding Hearts and other favorites nicely arranged on the property.
What a wonderful way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon visiting gardens. Visit the Anchorage Daily News for more information on locations included in the tour this year, along with hints on what to expect along the route.
Rita Gittins is one of the Innkeepers in the Anchorage Alaska Bed & Breakfast Association. She serves on the Board of this peer review organization as well as the State organization, BBAA. Her Bed & Breakfast, Alaska Frontier Gardens, is inspected and approved for meeting quality standards.
